Hydration is more important for Autumn and Winter

by | Mar 29, 2023

It’s that time of year again.

Cold weather, shorter days and a serious change to the warm weather just gone. Thankfully, we have some tips to keep your skin looking fresh and healthy during these colder months.

Cold weather can lead to cracks in the outer layers of your skin, inflammation and a general lack of moisture. This can seriously impact your overall skin health.

When we’re dehydrated, our bodies release stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline which makes us feel tired and fatigued. But remember, dehydration isn’t just bad news for your body–it’s also bad news for your face!

It is recommended to change your skincare routine to accommodate this need for additional hydration.

If you’re someone who suffers from dry skin then these are all things that you need to be aware of when it comes to keeping your skin hydrated during autumn and winter months.

Change your cleanser from foaming to cream.

You can still use a foaming cleanser, but it is recommended to switch to a cream-based one instead. A foaming cleanser will remove the much needed oils from your skin, making it feel uncomfortably tight and dry.

Cream cleansers work well as an everyday face wash because they’re gentle on sensitive skin types, yet are still effective at getting rid of impurities that might have built up over time whilst keeping the skin feeling nourished.

Add Hyaluronic acid into your serum routine

Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin and helps to retain moisture. It can be applied to the skin as a serum or cream, and it has many benefits including reducing fine lines and wrinkles, improving elasticity, maintaining moisture barrier function and more.

Go for a thicker, more nourishing moisturizer to lock it all in

Hydration is important year-round, but it’s especially crucial in autumn and winter. That’s because your skin is at its driest in these seasons, so you need to be extra vigilant about your moisturizer game.

To lock in all that moisture, use a heavier moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid. And remember: while you should apply this after cleansing and toning your face, neck, chest and hands with a cleanser or scrub respectively (see below), don’t forget to layer on an SPF 30+ sunscreen before hitting the outdoors!

Remember, regardless of the weather outside – sunscreen should be worn everyday!

Sunscreen protects against skin cancer and premature ageing, sunburns, sunspots and pigmentation. It also helps to keep your skin hydrated by preventing it from drying out in the sun or wind.

It’s not just about keeping your skin looking its best, but also about keeping it healthy so that it can fight off any potential infections or diseases. By changing up your skincare routine and adding some new products into it, you will be able to keep those dry patches away at all times!
